love is not tourism

Love Is Not Tourism

A public issue around you and me during pandemic.

Project Overview:

I started creating Love Is Not Tourism campaign in Taiwan at July 2020, because I could not see my boyfriend during Covid 19. My country did not allow foreigner to come. My boyfriend sent me a news article, saying that the Netherlands has a couple visa for unmarried long/distance relationships, and I also accidentally found a big forum talking about this event all over the world. However, I could not find any Chinese news or forum about the idea of Love is not tourism. To attract attention to this issue, and fight not only for me, but also for many other long distance couples that were struggling during the pandemic, I created a Love Is Not Tourism Taiwan Instagram account.

I learned a lot in the process. I asked people to post their story at first, and I found lots of people who, just like me, were struggling to visit loved ones. I also set up a petition. After around 30 people had shared their stories, journalists asked me for news interviews. I also got the chance to go to a radio show and talk about my campaign. After these interviews, I found some partners to organise a press conference together to reach the government. Eventually, we were not able to change the law and the decisions that the Taiwanese government made. But at least I created a forum for support and I also reached out a legislator who helped us with visa applications different visa .

I was really grateful for this journey, because I could really experience social campaigning and helping people.

Here is how I did it:

This is the video that we played on press conference.
I recruited people who have same situation and show our struggle though the video.
